Heidi and Eel Skin
The latest material which designer Heidi Mottram has started to work with is ‘eel skin leather’. Found on the ocean bed in the enchanting seas surrounding the Far East of the Orient, this certain species is not endangered. Many Asian people consider the skin a symbol of good luck.
Eel has a unique skin, which has evolved to withstand the enormous pressures at which it lives. The eel skin is a bi product and is not destroyed for the skin like fur. As a natural material, each skin has distinct markings and pigments. These unique features give the product a different look each time.
Despite its light weight, eel skin is stronger than fine leather and will become softer and suppler as time goes. In addition should it get wet, the leather does not change texture or watermark.
Shoe Lagoon has a beautiful range of Heidi’s Eel Skin Purses and handbags which can be found in our boutique under the purses & handbags
